Kindergarten

• Count.

Primary 1

• Show number bonds.
• Show addition by making 10. For example, for 8 + 7 put 8 blue cubes on one rod, 7 red cubes on the other. Move two red cubes to the rod with blue cubes.
• Show subtraction from 10. For example, for 14 - 8 put 10 on one rod and 4 on another. To subtract, you can only remove from one rod. Remove 8 from the rod with 10 cubes. Combine the remaining 2 with the 4 on the other rod.
• Show different ways to add and subtract numbers to 40.

Primary 2

• Use as base-10 material. Label the rods as 1, 10, 100. Label one color with 1, another with 10, another with 100. Illustrate addition and subtraction with renaming.
