My Pals are Here! Science Teacher’s Guides are detailed and comprehensive guides to equip teachers for inquiry-based teaching. During the inquiry process, teachers take on the role for facilitators to spark curiosity, cultivate the skills needed for inquiry, and guide pupils along the way. 

The guides include an overview of each theme and chapter, background material for teachers, lesson plans, textbook wraparound, and activity wraparound. The wraparound is a reduced-size page of the textbook or activity book with notes on the contents, enrichment information and activities, and common misconceptions. The wraparound for the activity books includes answers printed on the image of the page from the activity book.

 

There are four guides, one for each of the four themes: Cycles, Systems, Interactions, and Energy.
Our recommendation:
 
The teacher’s guide is a valuable resource providing additional activities, internet links, background information for teachers, additional information and activities for high ability students, and answers. It can be used for both schools and home schools. The lessons are centered on the topic rather than a day’s lesson of specific length. They are not daily lesson plans. The overview does provide a weekly schedule for 16 weeks for the Cycle and System themes, 6 weeks for the Energy theme, and 17 weeks for the Interactions theme, assuming 2 periods a week, and the lesson plans do include the number of periods required. Spending time on the exploration ideas in the textbook or the internet sites will probably require additional time but can be assigned as homework and done independently.
