| Power Math - K is written for 6 years old. The workbook contains all the essential material for an entire academic year.
It is written with a view to the new era. It merges the best of the pacific rim countries' mathematics curriculum and that prescribed by the NCTM Standards.
Power Math recognizes the higher IQ levels of modern day children. Rather than follow the crowd and deliberately suppress the innate learning desires of young hungry minds, Power Math creates materials to stretch their intellectual abilities to the utmost.
Pacific rim countries have tougher and more demanding syllabus than developed countries. It works on the maxim that 'you can teach, we can learn'.
Power Math extracts the best of the East and West and package them together in a comprehensive workbook for young children to master simple concepts in numbers and have lots of fun while learning.
A child can do more than one exercise at one sitting.
Before attempting exercise 1A, draw three objects on the board one on top of each other and ask the child to point out which is the top, which is the middle and which is at the bottom.
Then for exercise 1B, draw two objects side by side and ask the child to point to the left object and the right object.
Then proceed on to 1C in the same manner.
Allow the child to go on and on, if he/she shows the desire to do so.
At the end of the lesson, draw 4 objects as in Q5 of page 13 and ask the child, which is the top right, top left, middle left.....
Teaching need not be difficult. Keep the concepts simple and teach children one concept each time, give them a chance to practice on the workbook, then proceed to the next concept.
To the teacher, I'd wish them 'happy teaching', and to the child 'many happy hours of learning'.
