Dr. Richard Bisk specializes in helping teachers develop a deep understanding of mathematics. His services include, but are not limited to, initial professional development and ongoing support, classroom observations and recommendations, vertical team building, and helping schools build math leadership.

Dr. Bisk hosts Singapore Math® summer institutes at Worcester State University, where he is a professor. Through this role, he has worked extensively with schools and teachers using Singapore Math® textbooks since 2000. Student math weaknesses and phobias inspired him to begin working with K-12 teachers 25 years ago. He has taught numerous preservice and inservice courses that focus on improving the mathematical understanding of teachers, using Singapore Math® curriculum to make connections between their own math knowledge and classroom implementation. His work with schools ranges from single day seminars to 3-credit graduate courses.

Dr. Bisk has given presentations at local, national and international conferences on his work with the mathematics books from Singapore. He has also observed and taught lessons in classrooms in both Singapore and South Korea.

Dr. Bisk was an advisor to the Massachusetts Department of Education in the development of the “Guidelines for the Mathematical Preparation of Elementary Teachers,” a major breakthrough in efforts to improve teacher content knowledge. He has served as mathematics department chair at both Fitchburg and Worcester State University.
