The Singapore math method is a highly effective teaching approach originally developed by Singapore’s Ministry of Education in the 1980s for Singapore's public schools.

Singapore Math uses the CPA Approach, Concrete, Pictorial, and Abstract, to help students develop strong conceptual understanding. Lessons begin with hands-on learning using physical objects (concrete), move to visual models such as drawings and diagrams (pictorial), and then progress to numbers and symbols (abstract). We also encourage educators to talk through problems with students and invite students to explain their thinking as they solve. This combination of hands-on activities, visual representations, and discussion supports visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners.

Singapore Math follows a “mastery spiral” framework, meaning it blends the best parts of
mastery and spiral teaching approaches. The curriculum spends more time on a
select few topics while strategically revisiting them each year, allowing
students to build on prior learning and develop a deeper understanding over
time.

Teacher’s Guides are in full color and include reduced-size versions of Textbook and Workbook pages for easy reference to every lesson. The Teacher’s Guides give more ideas for differentiation and classroom activities.

Home Instructor’s Guides are specifically for teaching Dimensions Math in a one-on-one setting. They include extensive background notes, lesson suggestions, tips, activities, and answer keys.

Student success with Singapore Math is closely tied to active instruction, especially during the lesson portion using the textbook. Educators typically guide students through new concepts, ask questions, and model strategies, while the workbook is often used for more independent practice and reinforcement. Lesson length varies by grade level:
For PK–K: about 30 minutes per lesson
For grades 1–2: about 30 to 45 minutes per lesson
For grades 4–5: about 45 to 60 minutes per lesson
The recommended pace is one lesson per day, five days per week, until the curriculum is completed.

We Didn’t Learn Math This Way! A K–5 Guide for the Confused Adult: A parent-friendly reference that explains the concepts and methods used throughout the curriculum.
Online courses and instruction: Parents seeking extra support can explore our Recommended Providers. These educators teach the Singapore Math method in alignment with our standards and have been carefully vetted.
Workshops and events: We attend homeschool conferences throughout the year, giving families opportunities to explore products in person and meet members of the Singapore Math team. We also recommend Aspire Learning Academy’s workshop, How to Implement Singapore Math for Homeschooling Parents.
Community support: Our Singapore Math Curriculum Users Facebook group is a helpful space where parents and educators can ask big-picture questions and get help with specific lessons and problems.

Parents can teach Singapore Math effectively with a basic understanding of math concepts, supported by the Teacher’s Guide or Home Instructor’s Guide. These guides are comprehensive resources designed to help educators achieve each lesson’s objectives. They include background information, detailed lesson plans, helpful suggestions, activities, and answer keys. They also help educators understand the purpose of each lesson within the broader context of the curriculum. For parents looking to build confidence with the approach, we also recommend our book, We Didn’t Learn Math This Way! A K–5 Guide for the Confused Adult.

Singapore Math is approachable for families new to homeschooling, especially with our flagship curriculum, Dimensions Math. The program is designed as a complete system with a clear lesson structure and a supportive progression. Parents can follow the Home Instructor’s or Teacher’s Guide to teach confidently without planning from scratch and use activities and downloadable printouts to keep lessons engaging. For families who want additional guidance, optional video lessons are available to provide extra instructional support and help parents feel confident staying on track.

Our lesson plans are flexible while still giving instructors the structure and support needed to teach effectively. A typical lesson includes instruction from the textbook and practice from the workbook, but educators can adjust pacing and workload based on student understanding. If a student grasps the concepts right away, you do not need to assign every workbook problem. Choose a few to confirm understanding and move on. The workbook is meant to reinforce learning when needed, not to slow progress. Likewise, you do not need to complete every textbook problem if your student demonstrates mastery. The goal is deep understanding, not finishing every item on the page.

We offer free placement tests. If you're new to Singapore math, we highly recommend giving your student a placement test to be sure they start at the appropriate level.  

After grade 8, students may move on to Geometry and Algebra 2 programs.

We recommend that students start DM PK as early as age 3, depending on your child's readiness.

In typical U.S. math programs, students get a worked example, then solve problems that very closely follow that example, repeating all the same steps with different numbers. In Singapore math, students must think through concepts and apply them in new ways from the very start. Since they can’t rely on simple replication, students are pushed to greater engagement and broader thinking. In U.S. math programs, concepts and skills are more compartmentalized within and across grade levels than in Singapore math, where a strong sense of connectivity to past learning is woven throughout. Unique Singapore math methods, such as number bonds and bar modeling, also set Singapore math apart from typical U.S. math pedagogical styles.

The Dimensions Math® Video Lessons subscription covers Dimensions Math Grades 1-6. The subscription is an additional teaching resource and does not replace the core curriculum or physical books.

Because Singapore Math is such a hands-on method for teaching math, we do not offer digital content for homeschool aside from video lessons. We do have printouts available for free online that should be paired with Dimensions Math textbook instruction.

While we do not have regular sales of our core material, we do have a blemished sale section for cosmetically imperfect books.
