Dimensions Math® PK–5

A refreshed approach to Singapore math
from the people who know it best.

Written by a team of teachers and experts with more than 100 years of combined classroom experience, Dimensions Math PK-5 is an engaging curriculum for classrooms and homeschools that provides a deep elementary math foundation that serves students throughout their math careers. The price of the series reflects our belief that an excellent math education should be accessible to all.

The Curriculum

View the Dimensions Math® PK-5 series overview (PDF). Dimensions Math is designed to better serve U.S. teachers and students. We’ve updated aspects of Singapore math curriculum for clarity and relevance, while preserving the solid foundation that makes it unique. The series follows the principles outlined in the Singapore mathematics framework, including the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach, mental math strategies, and bar modeling.

In the Dimensions Math program, concepts are introduced and explained in a new format with vibrant imagery, while the progression and scope that define Singapore math remain intact.

All components have differentiation.

Textbooks build on prior knowledge, and develop familiar concepts in an accessible way.

Workbooks offer independent practice while maintaining the careful progression of exercise variation.

Teacher’s Guides include suggested teaching notes and activities for the whole class and small groups to achieve lesson objectives.

Tests systematically evaluate progress.

Throughout the series, five characters offer suggestions on how to think about problems, remind students of strategies they’ve learned, and point out important information to encourage students to come up with their own solutions.

Lessons begin with a problem for students to solve, setting the stage for discussion. Students who need additional support can spend more time working with manipulatives or using other strategies as outlined in the Teacher’s Guide, while teachers can listen for common misunderstandings and encourage students to solve problems in various ways until they internalize concepts.

Follow along using the slider below. In Dimensions Math Textbook 1B Chapter 17 Lesson 7, students learn to subtract from tens. The lesson opens with a Think activity, which uses everyday objects (or manipulatives) to get students to think concretely about the concepts. The Teacher’s Guide explains how to remind students of relevant previously learned knowledge. After spending some time with hands-on activities or word problems, the lesson progresses to the Learn portion, in which students see a pictorial representation directly related to the concrete phase of the lesson. Students will continue to make connections to the illustrations, manipulatives, and the numbers while they fully explore the expression 70−6.

Once students have mastered a concept with the use of concrete and pictorial aids, they are ready to take on more abstract mathematical problem sets. They reach fluency by collecting various strategies along the way.

Finally, students work through word problems that give them a sense of real-world application of math. Students use the strategies they learned in earlier phases to both understand and solve these problems.

All lessons have a corresponding workbook exercise, which extends independent practice of mathematical concepts. A thoughtful progression pattern followed throughout the series covers the fundamental concepts, offers practice exercises with pictorial representations, and challenges students with abstract exercises.

Follow along using the slider below. In Dimensions Math Workbook 1B, the corresponding exercise for Chapter 17 Lesson 7 starts with simpler problems and progresses to more challenging problems. A thoughtful progression pattern followed throughout the series covers the fundamental concepts, offers practice exercises with pictorial representations, and challenges students with abstract exercises.

Teacher’s Guides

Think offers structure for teachers to guide student inquiry. Provides various methods and activities to solve initial textbook problems or tasks.

Learn guides teachers to analyze student methods from Think to arrive at the main concepts of the lesson through discussion and study of the pictorial representations in the textbook.

Do expands on specific problems with strategies, additional practice, and remediation.

Student textbook pages allow teachers to follow along with the class. Answers for student problems are printed in the Teacher’s Guides with further explanations where needed.

Extend provides ideas and activities to challenge the high achievers in the classroom.

Small group activities allow students to work with each other and have fun.

Pre-K and K Teacher’s Guides contain age-appropriate content exploration and activities.

Test books are essential for evaluating student progress in an organized way. They are closely aligned with Textbook content.

Tests for Grades 1–5 have differentiated assessments. Each chapter has both a Test A and Test B, with Test A focusing on key concepts and fundamental problem-solving skills, and Test B focusing on the application of analytical skills and heuristics. Tests consist of multiple-choice questions that assess comprehension of key concepts, and free response questions for students to demonstrate their problem-solving skills.

Tests for Kindergarten uses pictorially engaging questions to test student ability to grasp key concepts through various methods including circling, matching, coloring, drawing, and writing numbers.
